He attended the public schools of the community in which he spent his boyhood and at an early age became associated in the oil business with his father. In 1914 he entered the automobile business and spent the following four years in the employ of the Butler Buick Company. Beginning in 1918 Mr. Shaffer was identified with his brother as a partner in the Shaffer Bros. Motor Company, 218 East Cunningham Street.
He was a Republican, a member of the Methodist Church, and belonged to the Elks Lodge.
