He received public school advantages at Homer City, Pennsylvania, and later graduated from the normal school at Indiana, class of 1897, after which he taught school at Manor station, in Westmoreland County, for four years. Later he taught at Kiskiminetas, Westmoreland County, where he was now manager of the Kiskiminetas Springs School.
