He graduated at Dickinson College, 1889; studied medicine in the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; completed his studies in Germany; returned to the United States and studied theology at Berkeley Divinity School, Middletown, Connecticut; ordained to the ministry in the Protestant Episcopal Church, and was for three years assistant minister in Grace Church, Brooklyn Heights; in 1886 was rector of St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church, Flatbush, Long Island.

When he died he was rector of an Episcopal church at Nice, France.
