General Notes: Husband - Rufus Parker Seely

He was reared and educated in Plum township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. In October, 1861, he enlisted in Company I, Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry, and served until the close of the war, participating in all the battles of the army of the Potomac, except the battle of the Wilderness. He was once a Republican but became a Prohibitionist. He filled the office of school director, and was a member of Union Veteran’s Union, No. 10, and of Andrew Jackson Post, G. A. R., of Cooperstown. He settled on a farm of fifty acres in 1865, soon after his return from the war, and was the owner of a fine English stock breeding horse. He and his family belonged to the Second Advent church. In 1885 he purchased fifty acres adjoining his previously acquired landed property.
