General Notes: Husband - James Summerville

He was a native of County Down, Ireland, and in 1782 came to America. He got into some difficulty about shooting rabbits out of the hunting season, and to avoid arrest he took passage on a vessel which was ready to sail for the New World. He first located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and on his arrival there his only possessions consisted of a dog and a gun. After following farming in that county for two years he removed to a place on Crooked creek in Armstrong County, and in 1796 secured 350 acres of land in Franklin township, that county, on the site where Worthington was later located, and about six miles from Kittanning. Years later the place was being owned and operated by his great-grandchildren. He died there at the age of ninety years, and was buried in the Seceder cemetery at Worthington.

He was born near Belfast, in County Down, Ireland, and was a member of the Seceder or Presbyterian Church. In his native land he was reared and educated, and when a young man crossed the Atlantic and took up his residence in Pennsylvania.
He was one of the first settlers west of the Allegheny river in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and there on the old homestead farm he and his wife died at a ripe old age, he having attained the age of ninety-eight years. He was first a Whig, and later a Republican, in politics.

The lists of his children given on different pages of the source differ somewhat. Josiah and Azel may be the same person. Besides those listed were two others deceased before 1898. With the exception of one, all lived to be over seventy years of age.

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Scott

Another source states that she was a native of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
