He emigrated from Devonshire, England, [to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,] about 1688.

He is said to have emigrated from Devonshire, England, about 1669, to have settled among the Swedes on the Delaware, and to have built in 1689, Gloria Dei, better known as the Old Swedes Church in Southwark, Philadelphia.
