He was one of a family of twenty-five, twenty-two sons and three daughters. He was a native of Germany, who immigrated to America, locating in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and later coming to Westmoreland County, where he died. He was an extensive farmer, a member of the Lutheran church and in politics a whig.
