General Notes: Husband - Anthony Ruff

He was a native of Germany who emi-grated from his native land with his father when a lad, and settled in Lan-caster County, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the militia in 1812.

He came from near Wittenberg, Germany, and is believed to have come to America prior to 1770 and settled for a time at Hagerstown, Maryland, and in 1779 he purchased a farm of Joseph McHundry on the headwaters of Sewickley creek [Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania?], deed dated October 18, 1779.
