General Notes: Husband - John Burgess Ross


He received his earliest education in the schools of Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, afterwards attending the Ligonier Classical Academy, presided over by the Rev. Mr. Dickinson. He studied civil engineering, surveying and mapping with the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and at the conclusion of his course received a diploma. For a time thereafter he taught in the schools of Myers, Waterford and McCance, all of Ligonier township. In 1911 he became a candidate for the office of county surveyor of Westmoreland County, and was elected to the position. At the end of his first term he was reelected. He served also as assistant assessor of Ligonier township. It is to the Republican party that Mr. Ross gave the aid and sanction of his vote and influence. He affiliated with Ligonier Lodge, No. 964, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Ligonier Encampment, No. 312, and was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Ligonier. He held the office of elder and served as superintendent of the Sunday school.


General Notes: Wife - Myrtle Smith


Previous to her marriage she was a member of the Reformed church, but was later associated with the United Presbyterian church, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and also belonged to the Missionary Society.
