General Notes: Husband - John Bartley

He was born near Bedford Springs, Pennsylvania, was five years old when his parents settled in Penn Township, Butler County, where he attended the early schools. He then went to Philadelphia, where he learned the blacksmith's trade and worked at that business for seven years before returning to Butler.
After marriage, he and his wife moved to Armstrong County, where he followed his trade. They had eleven children, of whom ten grew to maturity. The family was reared in the Roman Catholic Church.

Notes: Marriage

This wedding was one of the most important social functions that took place in that section for many years. The guests numbered more than 400 people, coming from adjoining counties to participate in the festivities, the young people being very popular.
