General Notes: Husband - William Knox Rodgers

He was five years old when he came with his parents to the United States, and to Pennsylvania. He received his education at the common school, and in the academies of Clarion and Butler counties, after which he commenced farming in Clarion County. In 1863 he removed from there to Fallowfield township, Washington County, where he then resided.
He took a great interest in educational matters, and was an especial enthusiast of the common-school system. When a young man he was the promoter of an academy in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and he taught school for some three years with marked success. Politically he voted the Republican ticket, and he and his wife and all their children were members and liberal supporters of the M. E. Church. [CBRWC, 526]

He was brought to the United States by his parents in 1833, the family settling near Parkers Landing, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, where they lived on a farm. William Rodgers lived there until 1860, when he came to Fallowfield township, Washington County, and engaged in farming. He espoused the Republican party and took a deep interest in public affairs, having served as a member of the board of school directors. He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Charleroi and served faithfully on its official board.

He took up farming as did his father in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, but after his father died he sold the family farm there and in 1853 moved to Fallowfield Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania where he purchased a large diary farm just to the west of what is now Charleroi, Pennsylvania. At that time the area was known as Lock 4, which was the number of the lock on the Monongahela River in that area. [R&S]
