He left Washington County, Pennsylvania, and removed to Ohio and engaged in the iron business. He built the first iron furnace in that state, was twice elected to Congress, and was president of the Iron Bank of Ironton at the time of his death. He was one of the founders of Ironton, and left a large estate.
