General Notes: Husband - [Ancestor] Rockwell

All the writers agree that the name Rockwell was originally Rochville and of Norman origin. The first of the name that came to England was Sir Ralph De Rochville, one of the Knights who accompanied the Princess Maud when she claimed the throne of England, but who later joined Henry II. and had a grant of three Knights fees of land in the county of York, upon which estate the Rockwells have continued to live up to the present [1913] date. The last great act of the family recorded in English history is the rescue of Earl of Northumberland and Lora Percy, from the party of Earl Douglass at battle of Halidon Hill in the reign of Henry IV., by Sir John Rockwell, whose coat-of-arms is here described: Arm: Argent, upon a chief sable three boars' heads coupled, or langued gules. Crest: Upon a wreath of the colors of the shield or a boar's head with the motto in French "all for my God and King"-under all is printed Rockwell. 4
