General Notes: Husband - Daniel Shockey

He assisted his father on the farm, attending the district school during winter months, until eighteen years of age.
After marriage he engaged in farming. In January, 1879, he took a contract to furnish all the lumber and timber between Edgemont, Maryland, and Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, for the Baltimore & Cumberland Valley Railroad, purchased a new steam saw-mill, and filled this contract in addition to running his farm. In 1882 he removed to Waynesboro, where he built up his business, that of manufacturing all kinds of hard and soft wood to order; and also built, on the corner of Franklin and Second Streets, a handsome residence. Mr. and Mrs. Shockey were members of the German Baptist Church.

In addition to his mill, he had a farm of 280 acres, nearly all improved, and he paid considerable attention to the raising of fine fruit.
