He was educated in the common schools and at the Sand Institute, Murraysville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He owned and operated a sawmill at Export, and belonged to Lodge No. 486, B. P. O. E., of Jeannette, William McKinley Lodge, No. 173, K. of P., of Delmont, and Camp No. 8697, M. W. of A., of Export. He was a Democrat in politics, and was a member of the Presbyterian church of Murraysville.
