General Notes: Husband - Philetus Wilton Raymond

He was reared and educated in his native place, and his earlier years were spent as a clerk in his father's store. In 1853 he entered the employ of Aaron W. Raymond, then engaged in the furnace business at Raymilton. A few years afterward he removed to the village of Cherry Tree, and engaged in merchandising. Subsequently he was elected postmaster of the house of representatives at Harrisburg, and re-elected to the same position. Some six years prior to his death he formed a partnership with his brother, W. K., and engaged in the clothing business, but in 1879 the latter was succeeded by Frank N. Raymond, his eldest son, who continued the business after his death.
Mr. Raymond was a Mason, and was buried with the usual honors of that fraternity.
The following tribute to his character is copied from the Venango Spectator, whose veteran editor knew him well from childhood up to his death: “Here where his life was passed his friends included almost all who ever knew him. His disposition was genial, yet he had sufficient force of character to assert himself when necessary, and to treat those who were deserving of his regard better than those who were not. As a business man he was prompt, energetic, and obliging; as a friend he was true to what he professed; and as a citizen he was alive to his duty as a member of the community, and interested in its welfare.” [HVC 1890, 764]

General Notes: Wife - Hannah M. Raymond

Unk newspaper,
Mrs. Hannah M. Raymond.
Mrs. Hannah M. Raymond, widow of the late Philetus W. Raymond, died on Wednesday afternoon at her residence at 943 Liberty street at the age of 94 years, following a brief illness with influenza. She was one of the oldest women in the city; until Saturday, when she took ill with the flu, she enjoyed good health.
Mrs. Raymond was born in Utica on March 3, 1834, the daughter of Aaron W. and Eliza (Whitaker) Raymond, pioneer residents of this county, and one of a family of 13 children. Of these, 10 lived to maturity. One daughter, Miss Delia Raymond, and one sister, Miss Mary Raymond, both of Franklin, survive the deceased.
Mrs. Raymond was a member of the First Presbyterian church and as late as October of last year attended services.
The funeral is to take place at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the residence, with Rev. Dr. Benjamin Bunn Royer, the pastor, in charge. Interment will be in the Franklin cemetery.
Friends are requested to omit flowers.
