He lived on the old family homestead where he was born until 1869, when he sold out and purchased another residence the same year. The farm comprised 175 acres, 165 under cultivation, the balance timber. He was a Trustee of Normal School when organ­ized, and gave $1,000 toward the erection of the building. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church.
