He was graduated at the Titusville high school, Titusville, Pennsylvania, at which he subsequently taught for some time; and he also graduated at Allegheny College and at Harvard University, gaining distinction at the last named institution, where he afterward taught for a while. Later he taught at Brooklyn, New York.
