General Notes: Husband - William Power

He was killed by the Indians while on his way from Franklin, Pennsylvania, to Pittsburgh, in company with a man named Wallace. This occurred at White Oak Springs, on the Franklin-Pittsburgh trail, about five miles north of where the town of Harrisville would later stand. Powers had a very fine gun, much admired by the Indians, and it is supposed that the desire to possess this gun led to the murder. When the act became known at Franklin, his relatives went to the scene and buried the bodies. Power's body was wrapped in a blanket and a rude coffin was made for it out of oak bark. The bodies were buried at the foot of one of the oak trees, from which the spring got its name.
