General Notes: Husband - Thomas J. Porter, Esq.

In 1802 the family moved to Butler County, PA, and in 1804 to the borough of Mercer, where he grew to manhood and attended the pioneer schools. In April, 1825, he located in Sharon, and was the second postmaster of the town, and one of its early hotel-keepers. He was also one of the pioneer merchants of Sharon, and among the first to go into the coal business, and for many years was engaged in developing the coal fields of the Shenango Valley. His parents moved to Sharon many years afterward. Politically he was always a Democrat, though he never took an active interest in political affairs. He cast his first presidential vote for Andrew Jackson in 1824, and never thereafter missed casting his vote for the presidential nominee of the Democratic party. Since early manhood Mr. Porter was been a member of the Masonic fraternity. [HMC 1888, 748]
