General Notes: Husband - Thomas Barnes Scott

---

He was born on the homestead in Scrubgrass, Venango County, Pennsylvania, and was educated in the public school and grew to manhood on the home farm. On attaining majority he went to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he learned the carpenter's trade, at which he worked until 1864, when he enlisted in Company I, Two Hundred and Twelfth Regiment Pennsylvania Heavy Artil­lery, serving until the close of the war and re­ceiving an honorable discharge. After the war he settled in New Castle, Pennsylvania, where he resumed work at his trade. In 1871 he became interested in oil production and was located in various towns in the oil region, where he engaged in contracting the erection of derricks, tanks, buildings, etc., used in pro­ducing and storing oil. In 1900 he retired from active participation in all business and purchased a home in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he lived a retired life.
