He received his education in the High school of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and at Thiel college, located at the same place. After completing his literary education he engaged for six years in the drug business with John V. Stevenson, of Greensburg. Having decided to become a disciple of Esculapius, he in 1884 en­tered the office of Dr. J. L. Crawford as a stu­dent of medicine, and after four years of study entered Jefferson Medical college, at Philadelphia, from which institution he graduated in the spring of 1888. Immediately thereafter he opened an office at Greensburg for the practice of his profession. In politics he adhered to the principles of Jefferson and Jackson, and was aggressive and diligent in the service of his party.
