General Notes: Husband - Philip Pontius

He spent his entire life in Union County, Pennsylvania.
During the War of 1812 he was drafted, but having several brothers in the service, and being needed at home, he hired a substitute. In his younger years he taught school for some time, and for many years was a member of the school board, and also secretary of the board of trustees of the Mifflinburg Academy. He was recognized as a valued and public-spirited citizen, and was called upon to serve in a number of local offices, including those of supervisor and assessor of his township. He retained his excellent memory until near the last of his long and honorable career.
