General Notes: Husband - Conrad Rhodes

The Rhodes family is of German descent.

He came to America about 1788, and settled in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the Monongahela River. He was a pioneer among the permanent settlers of that part of the state; he purchased a large tract of undeveloped wilderness, which he cleared and successfully engaged in its culture, gathering together considerable wealth for those days. The property later revealed rich deposits of coal, which were worked to good advantage by succeeding owners.
He lived an upright, Christian life, in accordance with the spiritual teachings of the Presbyterian Church, of which he and his wife were devout members.
