General Notes: Husband - Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Barnes

He attended the locol schools and became a farmer. He and his wife settled across the county line in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, after their marriage. He purchased the farm across the Sandy Lake-Polk road and also the "Karl place, " which separated his original farm and that of his father. They lived on the original farm the remainder of their lives. He was known as one of the best farmers of his time and was noted for the produce he raised. He huckstered a regular route to Franklin for many years, serving it in both summer and winter. He was also considered an expert butcher, especially in the butchering of sheep; his secret was to "never let the wool touch the meat." He also served as "horse doctor" when the veterinarian was not available and someone had a sick or injured animal. Thomas Jefferson Barnes was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Sandy Lake. Politically, he was a Democrat. Louisa was a member of the Disciple Church.
