General Notes: Husband - John W. Patterson


He was born in Chartiers township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he was reared to manhood. On the breaking out of the great Civil War, he offered his services in defense of the Union, and was made colonel of the 102d regiment, Pennsylvania volunteer infantry. He participated with his command in many hotly-contested engagements, but was killed at the battle of the Wilderness. The G. A. R. post, No. 151, of Pittsburgh, was named in honor of him.

He was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on the farm where his father settled on his return from Kentucky. In April, 1861, he enlisted in Company E, Thirteenth Pennsylvania Regiment of Volunteers, and was made captain of his company. In 1862 he was promoted to colonel of his regiment, which he commanded until his death, being killed in the battle of the Wilderness, while in command of his regiment, when aged twenty-nine years.

After the death of her husband she removed to Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
