He was born in Graham township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, was there reared and acquired a good practical education in the local schools. During his entire business career he has successfully engaged in lumbering and farming, and came to have a fine farm of fifty acres, under a high state of cultivation, and improved with substantial farm buildings. At the time he purchased the land it was covered with a heavy growth of timber, but by persistent labor he transformed it into a very productive and valuable tract.
