He was born in Redstone township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, February 4, 1837.
He was reared on a farm and attended the common schools. Farming was his choice for a life vocation and upon attaining his majority he engaged in farming and stock-raising. He came to have five farms of 656 acres of land and also three farms near Seattle, Washington. He was a democrat and served one term as school director. [BHCWC, 645]
