General Notes: Husband - Martin Sauter


He obtained his education in the public schools of Germany, learned the trade of a shoe-maker and was thus employed there until 1866. He then came to the United States, just after the close of the Civil War, and for a period of fifteen years engaged at the shoemaking trade in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He then purchased a farm in Buffalo Township, Butler County.
Religiously, the family were devout members of the Catholic church.
