Dr. Nyle D. Ziegler
Dr. Nyle D. Ziegler, 76, of 129 North Paint Blvd., Shippenville RD, a well-known chiropractor, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at his residence following a short illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1921, in the General Store in Van, he was a son of Ralph and Grace Exley Ziegler.
Dr. Ziegler attended Salina Elementary School and graduated in 1939 from Cranberry High School.
He attended Clarion State College and then went to work as a draftsman for Joy Manufacturing in Franklin.
During World War II, Dr. Ziegler served in the U.S. Navy Seabees, stationed from 1941 until 1945 in Okinawa and the Aleutian Islands.
Following his Navy duty, he attended California State College, graduating in 1949. He taught English and industrial arts in Guys Mills until entering the Palmer School of Chiropractic, graduating in 1952. Dr. Ziegler practiced as a chiropractor in Oil City, Van, Brookville, York and the Clarion area for the past 46 years.
Dr. Ziegler had taken numerous mission trips around the world including Haiti, Kenya, Honduras, India, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Zaire, Columbia and Venezuela. He shared his chiropractic skills in all of these countries and helped build clinics, churches, schools and homes. He also was a lay minister to missionaries and the native people.
He was a life member of the Van United Methodist Church where he played the trombone and the musical saw and taught the Adult Sunday School Class.
Dr. Ziegler co-founded and organized the Koinonia Christian Fellowship at Clarion University and served as president for 25 years. He was an active member of the Gideons International.
As a lay minister, he spoke in churches throughout the area and several times at the Cook Forest Sunrise Service.
Dr. Ziegler was on the board of the Cherry Run Camp Meeting Association. He also was a member of the American Legion.
He was married May 29, 1948, to the former June Lindsey, who survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 6, 1998, in the Van United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Linda Ziegler of Edinboro, Mark and Judy Ziegler of Halifax and Tim and Cheryl Ziegler of Valparaiso, Ind.; a daughter, Vonne Ziegler of Shippenville; and seven grandchildren, Amy and Dan Ziegler of Edinboro, Jonathan, Jennifer, Justin and Jordan Ziegler of Halifax and Katelynn Ziegler of Valparaiso.
He also is survived by two brothers, Robert Ziegler of President and Donald Ziegler of Van; a sister, Eloise Stover of Oil City; and a great aunt, Helen Exley of Van.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Van United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hrisak, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery at Maple Shade.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Gideons International or to the Koinonia Christian Fellowship of Clarion University.

Mrs. Mary Neely Ziegler, 18, wife of Nyle D. Ziegler of Van, died Wednesday morning at 2:30 in the Franklin Hospital where she had been a patient since March 9.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norris Neely of Erie. Previous to her marriage to Mr. Ziegler on November first, she made her home with her cousin and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Evans of Bredinsburg.
Mrs. Ziegler attended Cranberry High School and was very active in church work. For a number of years, was a member of the orchestra of the Franklin Gospel Tabernacle. She had a winning personality and was loved and admired by a host of friends.
She is survived by her husband, one sister, Peggy Neely of Bredinsburg and an aunt, Mrs. Mae Evans of Franklin.
The body was removed to the Barron Chapel where it will remain until 1:45 p.m. on Friday when a short prayer service will be held.
After the service the body will be taken to the Van Methodist Ep. Church for services at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. W. R. Ross, pastor, will officiate and he will be assisted by the Rev. Gilbert Lloyd of Erie. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Van.
