General Notes: Husband - Wilson Shields

Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co, PA

As a young man he worked as a tanner in Mount Pleasant, and in 1846, after his marriage, took up farming in Hempfield township, where he remained until 1878. In that year he returned to Mount Pleasant, where he spent the latter years of his life and eventually died at the age of eighty-one years.
His farm of three hundred acres, which was highly improved and upon which he had erected first class buildings of all kinds, was one of the finest in the district. He never entered public life, but was very active in church work and was an elder of the Middle Presbyterian Church at Mount Pleasant. He was a Republican in politics.
