He was born on the family homestead, and remained with his father until the age of twenty-three, when he moved to Manor Station, having previously, at the age of twenty-one, learned the carpenter's trade. He had received a common school education. He resided continuously in Manor, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he has followed his trade. He was a member of Manor Council, No. 716, R. A., Wilmerding Lodge, No. 936, U. B. of C. and J. of A., Greens-burg Lodge, No. 82, J. O. U. A. M., of which he was a charter member, also member of A. I. O. of K. M.
