He graduated from the high school at Barkeyville, PA, and later attended Grove City College, meanwhile, at the age of eighteen years, commencing teaching in Irwin Township, Venango County, which he continued while pursuing his higher studies. He was subsequently principal at Edinboro, PA, and later was a teacher of mathematics at Washington. D. C.
