General Notes: Husband - James Murtland


He grew to manhood in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and attended the public school during the winter months. After his marriage he purchased a farm in Armstrong County, where he resided until 1869, then settled in Lower Tyrone township, Fayette County, where he worked about the coke plants at Jimtown and Morgans. In early life he was a Democrat, later a Republican, from the date of the organization of that party. He and wife were members of the United Presbyterian church.

She died three years after marriage, leaving a child.
