General Notes: Husband - Richard Murphy

He came to Virginia at an earlier period than the family of his brother John, the disinherited priest, and settled on land patented to John Hite in Frederick County, Virginia, coming with the Irish emigration of 1737 to 1740. In 1758 the general assembly of Virginia passed an act compensating the home guards or minute-men, who had formed a bulwark of defense for the country east of the Blue Ridge, at no time allowing an Indian foray to extend eastward beyond their own settlements. In the list of these soldiers from Old Frederick county is found the name of Richard Murphy as securing seventeen shillings for his service. This would fix the date of his death later than 1758. He is not mentioned as a landowner of early Frederick County.
