General Notes: Husband - Charles E. Rugh


He was educated in the common schools of Salem, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the first class graduated in the Clarion state normal school. For two years he was a teacher at St. Petersburg, Pennsylvania, and at the end of that time he entered the Indiana State University, which he attended for two years. For twelve years thereafter he taught in the Clarion state normal school, and in 1903 went to California, where he attended and was graduated from the Leland Stanford University. For the following two years he was superintendent of a high school at Oakland, Cali-fornia, and while in that city pursued a post-graduate course in the University of California. While superintendent of the Oakland high school he won a five hundred dollar prize for writing the best essay on "Moral Training in the Public Schools." There were over three hundred manuscripts entered in this contest. Shortly after winning this prize he was offered a professorship at the University of California.
