General Notes: Husband - Andrew Spanogle

He was educated in the common schools of Shirley township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, whither his parents removed when he was seven years old. Attending the schools during the winter and assisting on the farm in the summer, he remained at home until he reached his majority. He then, with Jesse Kauffman as his partner, engaged in the manufacture of woolen goods in his father's mill. Two years later, he went to Venango County, where he aided his father in the construction of a flouring-mill, and married in the autumn of 1848. From that time for fourteen years, he was engaged in farming in Huntingdon and Blair counties. In 1865, Mr. Spanogle entered into a partnership at Lewistown with his brother, Jacob, his son, and William M. Pannebaker, under the firm name of J. Spanogle & Co.; this firm built the North American Tannery at Lewistown, and carried on the manufacture of leather successfully for about fifteen years. In 1868, Mr. Spanogle bought a farm in Derry township, Mifflin County, on which he built a large and commodious dwelling, and made many other improvements; this became his residence. In 1884, he bought the Mt. Rock flouring mills, later conducted by Spanogle & Yeager; he also purchased the Reedsville flouring mills, which were managed by the same firm. He also had large agricultural interests in Mifflin County.
He never desired to hold political office, however, yielding to the wishes of his friends, he became a candidate for director of the poor, was elected by a substantial majority.
He was a loyal member of the German Baptist church.
