He was a famous physician and the first surgeon-general of the United States, holding that position under Washington's administration.

In his will, made July 22, 1788, and probated Dec. 23, 1769, he devised to his brother, Col. George Morgan, all his estate, real and personal, except such bequests as were otherwise mentioned.
