General Notes: Husband - David A. Templeton

He was reared at Washington, Pennsylvania, and completed his education at Washington and Jefferson College. In 1863 he enlisted for service in the Civil War, entering Co. A, 100th Pa. Vol. Inf., and was honorably discharged July 24, 1865, with the rank of corporal. He then returned to Washington and shortly afterward embarked in a railway and express business. With the exception of a few years, that was his main business until he was appointed postmaster on June 27, 1906. For eight years previously he had served under Postmaster W. H. Underwood. After taking charge on July 15, 1906, he inaugurated many reforms in the management of the office. He had forty people on his payroll.
