General Notes: Husband - John C. Moore


He was born on the family homestead farm in Muddy Creek township, Butler County, PA. He resided with his parents until August, 1861, when he enlisted in Company C, One Hundredth Pennsylvania Volunteers, known as the “Round Heads,” and served three years and eleven months, participating in the following engagements: Port Royal, Hilton Head Ferry, James Island, where he was wounded in the left shoulder, was in the hospitals at Hilton Head, and New York city, and after four months returned to his regiment; Sulphur Springs, Second Bull Run, Chantilly, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Knoxville, siege of Vicksburg, Gettys­burg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House, and other engagements. He returned to Butler county at the close of the war, and remained at home until 1866, when he purchased a farm which he resided on thereafter. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church of Portersville. In politics, he was a Republican, and was a member of Watson Brothers Post, G. A. R.
