General Notes: Husband - John E. Flack


He was graduated from the Butler High School in 1899, after which he taught school in Butler County, Pennsylvania, for one term. On July 1, 1900, he accepted a position as office manager and bookkeeper with the Butler Light, Heat and Motor Company, where he remained until April 1, 1912, when the West Penn Power Company purchased this business. He retained his position with the new company until December 15, 1912, when he purchased the wiring and appliance department from the West Penn Power Company, and established his business at 113 West Jefferson Street. In 1916 he built a three-story brick building and moved to his present location, 115 West Jefferson Street. On March 17, 1923, with his brothers, Dr. A. M. and Richard L. Flack, they organized the Flack Brothers Shoe Store.
He was a Republican and served as a member of the school board in 1924-1925. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club, of which he served as treasurer, and was on the board of directors; was president of the board of the Y. M. C. A.; a member of the Board of Commerce, Merchants Bureau, Advisory Council; was a director of the Community Savings & Loan Company; also a member of the Sterling Club of Butler and the United Commercial Travelers. Among the Masonic organizations of which he was a member were: Butler Lodge, No. 272, F. and A. M.; Butler Chapter, 273, R. A. M.; Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Pittsburgh; Syria Caravan of Butler, A. A. O. N. M. S.; Lorain Commandery, K. T., No. 87; Independent Order of Odd Fellows, No. 278, in which he served for five years as secretary. Mr. Flack was an active member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a member of the official board for over sixteen years.
