In or about the year 1680 the ancestors of this family emigrated from England to America, landing on the Bermuda Islands, where they remained a short time. [HAC 1889 ii, 581]

The Mills family is of English ancestry, the family coming from England and first settling in the West Indies. After a few months spent in Bermuda, they came to the United States, settling in New York state, on Long Island.

The founder of the Mills family in America, George Mills, came to Jamaica, Long Island, about 1656, and there reared a family, whose descendants have scattered to every part of the United States.
