He was a member of the iron manufacturing firm of Valentines, at Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

He died of apoplexy at Oskaloosa, Iowa, aged forty-nine years. He had gone thither to attend a meeting of the Society of Friends. He was of the firm of Valentines & Co., and a gentleman of intelligence, of enlarged and liberal views, and a most exemplary and worthy Christian.
