General Notes: Husband - Thomas L. Robertson

He was brought up at home and educated in the public schools and at the West Newton Academy, which he attended three terms. At the age of twenty-one he began to teach and followed that calling for three years. In the spring of the year 1871 he located on a farm, which was then the property of his father. He farmed for some years on shares, but at the death of his father the farm reverted to him as his share of the estate. In addition to farming he was breeding registered short horn cattle for a number of years, they being known as the Willow Run herd. He was interested in politics; in 1898 he was the Republican candidate for the state legislature, but failed to get the nomination, being sixth among sixteen aspirants. He served several terms as a member of the school board, and served for several years as assessor and assistant assessor of the township. He was one of the originators of the Farmers' and Merchants' Bank of West Newton (a state bank), and a director in it beginning from its organization in March, 1900. [HWC 1906 III, 455]
