General Notes: Husband - J. Walter Miles

He was born in Irwin, Pennsylvania, where he was educated in the grade and high schools. Subsequently, he studied successively at the University of Pittsburgh and Cornell University, receiving from the former institution the degree of Civil Engineer and from the latter that of Mechanical Engineer. Immediately after graduation, Mr. Miles entered upon the active practice of his chosen profession, entering the service of the Westinghouse Electric Company, in East Pittsburgh.
Politically, Mr. Miles was a Republican, but never permitted himself to be made a candidate for office. He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Franklin Institute, of Philadelphia, The Society of American Military Engineers and the American Physical Society. He affiliated with Shidel Lodge, No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons, of Irwin, and also with the Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh. He was a communicant of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Irwin, and a member of the Official Board of this church.
"His personality and appearance are those of a man of great intelligence, much quiet force of character, and no little strength of purpose, but retiring in disposition and unassuming in manner, showing invariable consideration for the rights and feelings of others."
