General Notes: Husband - John K. Saxman

He received his preliminary education in the common schools of his neighborhood, and then pursued advanced studies at Dayton Academy for two years. For one term he was a student in the Pittsburg School of Pharmacy, being called home by the illness of his father. He then took up his residence in Congruity, Westmoreland County, where his father conducted a general store, assisting in this, and until the fall of 1891 devoted his attention to the cultivation and tilling of the soil. He then took up his abode in Greensburg and engaged in the livery business, following this until 1903, in which year he disposed of it and went on the road as salesman. He was a lover of fine horses and considered one of the best horsemen in Westmoreland County. He was a staunch Republican in politics.

He was educated in the public schools and at Dayton Academy, pursuing an advanced two years' course at the latter institution. He attended Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy one term, intending to become a pharmacist, but the illness of his father caused him to return home, and his life was diverted into another channel. He became his father's assistant in the Congruity general store, and managed the home farm, thus continuing until 1896, when he opened a livery stable in Greensburg. He continued in business there until 1902, then sold out and until 1912 was a traveling salesman, first with H. F. Seanor, later with the Eli Sell Company. He then returned to the livery business, opening the stable in Greensburg, catering to the best trade only. He also operated a well patronized local express service and maintained an agency for the sale of farm machinery, wagons and buggies.
He was a Republican in politics, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Modern Woodmen, and Loyal Order of Moose.
