General Notes: Husband - William McWilliams, M.D.

Irwin, Westmoreland Co, PA - a physician

Being the eldest son of a farmer he was inured to hard labor. His education was received in the common and select schools and at Allegheny college, Meadville, Pennsylvania, and on April 1, 1848, he began the reading of medicine with Dr. D. C. Fowler, of Greensburg. In 1851 he graduated from the Western Reserve Medical college, Cleveland, Ohio, and at once located at Crooked creek, Armstrong County, but the ensuing autumn removed to McLaughlinsville (Merwin), Westmoreland County, where he then remained, enjoying a large practice in which he was remarkably successful, especially in the treatment of typhoid fever and diphtheria, in which he was singularly skillful.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and a republican in politics. Starting in life without means he, by skillful financiering, succeeded in acquiring considerable wealth, owning three good farms and various other valuable properties and educating all of his children.
