General Notes: Husband - John Shaw Rose

He obtained his early education in the public schools of Franklin township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and later attended Laird Institute at Murrysville, Pennsylvania. Immediately after leaving school he engaged in agricultural pursuits, in which he met with the most gratifying success. He was appointed in August, 1905, to route No. 1, Murrysville Rural Free Delivery, after a competitive examination, in which his mark was 87½ per cent. a twenty-five mile route.
In 1864, when the cloud of war overspread the country and an urgent call for volunteers had been issued, Mr. Rose enlisted, August 7, in Company C, Fifth Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, Two Hundred and Fourth Regiment. He participated in many engagements during his term of service, and distinguished himself for his promptness and fearlessness on the field of action. He was honorably discharged from service June 30, 1865.
He was a staunch Republican in politics, and served his township as school director for some years.
