General Notes: Husband - Wilson McWilliams

He was educated in the common schools. At the age of twenty-one he learned carriagemaking with James Morrow, of Murrysville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, after which he built a threshing machine for J. T. Harvey. For two years thereafter he was engaged in business as a photographer. In 1864 Mr. McWilliams enlisted in Battery L, Sixth Regiment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, and served until the close of the war. After the return of peace he came home and was employed as a clerk in the store of Alexander Buchanan, at Murraysville. Mr. Buchanan sold out to A. C. McCutcheon, who was in turn bought out by Mr. McWilliams, by whom the store was conducted for one year. At the end of that time Mr. McWilliams returned it by sale to Mr. McCutcheon, and for three years engaged in business as a carpenter and painter. He then bought a house at Murrysville, which was destroyed by fire, and he subsequently purchased from Andrew McWain a farm about two miles south of Newlinsburg, to the cultivation of which he thereafter devoted himself. He was also the owner of another farm in the same township. He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Murrysville.
