He was a tanner by trade, an occupation he followed for several years. Beginning in 1829, with the exception of eight years, he resided in Evansburg. He served multiple terms as Justice of the Peace, being first elected in 1878. He was an adherent of the Methodist Episcopal Church; a member of the I. O. O. F.; in politics a Republican.
